In a shocking case from Delhi, police have arrested a woman and her cousin in connection with the suspicious death of her husband, officials confirmed on Saturday. The suspects have been identified as Sushmita and Rahul, her cousin.
The case came to light on July 13 when a hospital in the Uttam Nagar area reported an unnatural death. After suffering electrocution, Karan Dev was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead. Following the report, local police reached the location and sent the body to DDU Hospital for a postmortem examination. Although Karan’s family initially declined an autopsy, the police proceeded due to the suspicious nature of the death.
Two days later, Karan’s younger brother, Kunal, uncovered WhatsApp chats between Sushmita and Rahul. The messages hinted at a plan involving sleeping pills and electric shock. Based on this evidence, the police launched an investigation, registered a murder case, and arrested both Sushmita and Rahul.
Karan’s mother, Neeru, revealed that the family only became aware of the alleged relationship between Sushmita and Rahul after the cremation. Kunal had found incriminating chats on Rahul’s phone suggesting a premeditated plan.
According to Neeru, the messages showed Sushmita had fed Karan food mixed with drugs and was updating Rahul about his condition. When that didn’t work, she allegedly resorted to using electric shocks.
The day after the funeral, the family confronted Sushmita, who reportedly confessed to the crime, saying Rahul had been blackmailing her. Karan’s friend, Gaurav, said Rahul also admitted his involvement when questioned separately.
Gaurav added that Rahul was seen near the couple’s residence on the morning of the incident. The WhatsApp chats further confirm that Sushmita kept Rahul informed throughout the night of Karan’s death. The case is currently under further investigation as police gather more evidence.
